Craig Blackwell – Senior Associate


Craig has extensive experience and expertise across the whole spectrum of building and construction law including:

1. All forms of contracts including advising on, drafting and reviewing;

a. Joint ventures, Public Private Partnerships, Partnering contracts,
b. Lump sum, design and construct and cost plus contracts and subcontracts,
c. Architects and consultants contracts

2. Contract administration and advice relating to latent conditions, variations, EOT’s, programming and non-performance.

3. Court proceedings, mediations, arbitrations and expert determinations arising from construction work and the building industry.

4. Advising on and drafting Payment Claims, Payment Schedules and all aspects of matters under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act.

5. Residential construction and all types of claims under the Home Building Act and HOW insurance policies.

6. Strata disputes and Owners Corporations claims for defective work under the Home Building Act.

7. Professional negligence claims and issues involving architects, surveyors and engineers including professional body disciplinary proceedings.

8. Planning and environmental issues including DA consents, Class 1 and 4 actions in the L&E Court, obtaining easements for right of way and stormwater and obtaining temporary access for construction.

After being admitted as a solicitor in 1990, Craig worked for a period in-house at a publicly listed construction company, become an accredited specialist in commercial litigation in 1995 and recently an accredited adjudicator under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act. During his 17 years as a solicitor he has advised on and been involved in numerous different types of construction projects including:

· waste water treatment plants,

· power plants, substations and co-generation plants,

· tunneling and infrastructure

· office and residential tower buildings

· shopping centres

· schools, hospital and aged care facilities

· commercial warehouses and offices

· residential and cluster developments.
